10/28/17 Week 7

This week I finished the book Mastery. It's an excellent resource for learning about mastering our thoughts and actions. It helps in all aspects of life, not only business. Mastery, George Leonard "The human individual is equipped to learn and go on learning prodigiously from birth to death, and this is precisely what sets him or her apart from all other known forms of life." "the mastery of skills that are not genetically programmed is the most characteristically human of all activities." "How to begin the journey? You need only to take the first step. When? There's always now." I also enjoyed reviewing the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Here's the link for future reference. https://content.byui.edu/file/3dda7de4-cd79-4390-9bcf-3cb660c48dd1/1/The%207%20Habits%20of%20Highly%20Effective%20People.pdf The talk by President Hinckley impressed me so much I shared it with a friend. I want to save it for future reference. *It is impor...

10/20/17 Week 6

This week I learned a lot about Mastery. There were several key points that I plan to remember. One of the most important things I learned was in the following talk: "Success is Gained by Self Mastery" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1975/04/success-is-gauged-by-self-mastery?lang=eng#d I learned that I need to always work hard! I need to have integrity. I need to stay true to the gospel of Jesus Christ. I also learned a lot from the video entitled, "Loyalty to God and Family" https://vimeo.com/28075977 The single most important thing I took away from the video is that I should NEVER be too busy to fulfill my callings. If I am too busy for my callings I need to re-think my priorities. If I need help from Heavenly Father in my life I need to always be helping him. I also gained insight from the other study material. I learned that in some opinions it is better to stay in a company for a long time and build a reputation or get really good at what you ...

10/14/17 Week 5

This week was a great week of looking into myself and analyzing what I'd like to see in my own business. I learned several great tools to use in my current business and for any future business opportunities. Key points from "A Hero's Journey"  When I am older I will most likely ask myself: 1. Have I contributed something meaningful? 2. Who did I love and who loved me? 3. Am I a good person? These are three excellent life questions and they can also apply to a business owner. Upon retiring I want to be able to answer these questions with confidence and be happy about the answers. "Never give up on your search for your calling" Something interesting to try-Ask 5 people I know what I do better than anyone else in the world. I've learned that the secret is to do something that brings me JOY! I good way to measure this is to think of the last time I lost track of time doing something because it was so enjoyable. *I need to remember that A call...

10/06/17 Week 4

I really enjoyed reading The Ministry of Business. I learned a lot! It was interesting to see how spiritual aspects can be woven into every aspect of our lives, including business. I can also check one book off of my "books I want to read" list. Yay! I've highlighted many parts and it'll stay on my shelf as a reference for many years. I've also recommended it to at least two people. I am going to keep the "Deconstructing Your Fears" activity as a reference in this journal. It was a useful exercise. It was especially hard for me because I deal with anxiety. I actually got anxiety while thinking about doing the exercise and kept putting it off. As I finally sat down to work on it I felt my fears going away. It was nice to get it written down on paper. I put together a personal constitution this week. (Please reference page 140 in The Ministry of Business for future use). As I read, my personal constitution will be something I am constantly revisi...
