9/14/17 Week 1


I'm excited to start on my official path to earning a business degree! This week has been very insightful. The biggest take away from the lesson was something I already knew but was reminded of as I studied the material this week. In a business world, those who succeed the most, are those that are doing something they are passionate about. This success isn't always monetary. It comes in the quality of life they are living. There are very rich people who are not passionate about what they do. Are they financially successful? Yes! Are they achieving a rich quality of life? You be the judge.
I was also reminded about reputation. It's very important to have a good reputation when dealing with others, especially in the business world. Building quality relationships will come back to help so much. I need to remember to always be the best me I can when dealing with others. A small gift of gratitude or service now may come back one hundred fold in the future!
I really liked this video, especially Guy's perspective when he related his experience finding his career. He changed his life path after only 10 days in law school. Some might consider him as lesser for dropping out. He considered himself intelligent for not wasting many years of his life and lots of money to find out that law school was not his passion.

11/03/17 Week 8

This week has been interesting. It was nice to take a look at the "harder part of the business". What do we do when things are not going as planned? How do we keep pressing forward when it seems the odds are against us? How do we fix the problem? I really enjoyed the videos and readings for the week. I love that as a student at BYU Idaho there is so much of the gospel integrated into the courses.  President Monson's talk was very insightful. He gives direction, council, and hope. I will refer to this talk often in the future. 10/14/17 Week 5

This week was a great week of looking into myself and analyzing what I'd like to see in my own business. I learned several great tools to use in my current business and for any future business opportunities. Key points from "A Hero's Journey"  When I am older I will most likely ask myself: 1. Have I contributed something meaningful? 2. Who did I love and who loved me? 3. Am I a good person? These are three excellent life questions and they can also apply to a business owner. Upon retiring I want to be able to answer these questions with confidence and be happy about the answers. "Never give up on your search for your calling" Something interesting to try-Ask 5 people I know what I do better than anyone else in the world. I've learned that the secret is to do something that brings me JOY! 10/28/17 Week 7

This week I finished the book Mastery. It's an excellent resource for learning about mastering our thoughts and actions. It helps in all aspects of life, not only business. Mastery, George Leonard "The human individual is equipped to learn and go on learning prodigiously from birth to death, and this is precisely what sets him or her apart from all other known forms of life." "the mastery of skills that are not genetically programmed is the most characteristically human of all activities." "How to begin the journey? You need only to take the first step. When? There's always now." I also enjoyed reviewing the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
